Xpeng Receives More Than 15,000 Firm Orders for New G9 in Just 15 Days Since Launch
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is proudly revealing the impressive order statistics for its freshly upgraded flagship SUV, the 2024 G9, underscoring a triumphant debut.
In a recent announcement on Weibo, Xpeng disclosed that their 2024 G9 received an astounding 15,000 firm orders within the first 15 days of its market presence. An astonishing 80 percent of customers opted for the G9 Max version, which includes Xpeng’s advanced assisted driving feature, XNGP, as a standard offering.
Xpeng noted, “For every five Xpeng G9s sold, four come standard with City NGP capability.”
This announcement comes on the heels of China’s extended National Day holiday, with the news breaking on a Saturday, which marks the first working day after the holiday. Additionally, Sunday, October 8, has also been designated as a working day.
The initial launch of the Xpeng G9 took place on September 21, 2022, with a starting price of RMB 309,900 ($42,440), which was already seen as highly competitive. However, the G9 faced criticism for its complex configuration during its initial launch, overshadowing its appeal. Subsequently, Xpeng made significant changes to the model’s versions and pricing.
On September 19, Xpeng unveiled the new G9, offering five distinct versions. Some features were removed from the previous model, allowing for a reduced starting price of RMB 263,900, a substantial RMB 46,000 decrease from the old model.
The new G9 lineup includes two Pro versions and three Max versions, each with varying levels of assisted driving capabilities. The Pro versions are equipped with one Nvidia Drive Orin chip, providing 254 Tops of computing power and excluding LiDAR technology. In contrast, the Max versions come standard with two Drive Orin chips, doubling the computing power to 508 Tops, and two LiDARs as standard.
The Pro versions offer driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, lane change assist, and memory parking. Meanwhile, the Max version boasts the more powerful XNGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) feature.
XNGP is a comprehensive assisted driving system, encompassing both highway NGP and City NGP functionalities. Xpeng aims to offer driving assistance across all scenarios, including highways, city streets, internal park roads, and parking lots.
Among the Max versions, the most affordable is the 570 Max, boasting a CLTC range of 570km and a starting price of RMB 289,900, which represents a RMB 26,000 premium over the entry-level model priced at RMB 263,900.
The streamlined options and reduced pricing have contributed to the initial success of Xpeng’s revamped G9.
Xpeng has high expectations for the new G9. During the launch event, Xpeng’s chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, expressed confidence that the 2024 G9 is poised to become the top-selling pure electric SUV in the RMB 250,000 to RMB 300,000 price range.
The 2024 G9 garnered over 8,000 firm orders within 72 hours of its launch, as announced by Xpeng on its social media platforms during the model’s fourth day on the market. Deliveries of the new G9 commenced on September 21, although specific delivery numbers have not been disclosed by the company to date.
