Voyah Introduces Upgraded Free SUV Model, Excludes BEV Variant
Voyah Launches Upgraded Voyah Free SUV Model, Focuses on EREV Variant
Dongfeng Motor’s NEV brand, Voyah, has unveiled an enhanced version of its popular SUV, the Voyah Free. The new release marks a significant shift as Voyah has decided to discontinue the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, a decision that underscores the intensifying competition within the BEV market.
The upgraded Voyah Free, which hit the market recently, now exclusively offers an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant, starting at a reduced price of 266,900 yuan ($36,650).
Originally introduced in March 2021, the Voyah Free was initially available in both EREV and BEV versions, with the EREV starting at RMB 333,600 and the BEV at RMB 373,600.
The latest version’s starting price represents a significant drop of RMB 66,700 compared to its predecessor, the Voyah Free EREV that was previously available.
The dimensions of the new Voyah Free remain consistent with the previous model, boasting a length, width, and height of 4,905 mm, 1,950 mm, and 1,645 mm respectively. Its wheelbase stands at 2,960 mm.
The updated model features a peak engine power increase from 80 kW to 90 kW and boasts dual electric motors. The front motor delivers 160 kW, while the rear motor provides an impressive 200 kW. This robust powertrain enables the new Voyah Free to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
Equipped with a 39.2 kWh battery pack, the new Voyah Free offers a CLTC pure electric range of 160 km and a CLTC combined range of 1,201 km.
For enhanced driving assistance, the vehicle comes equipped with Baidu’s Apollo Highway Driving Pro system, which can be added for RMB 25,000 yuan. Customers have the option to either purchase the software outright for RMB 10,000 during the vehicle order or subscribe on a monthly basis. Under the subscription model, customers receive four months of complimentary usage, followed by a monthly subscription fee of RMB 600 or an annual fee of RMB 6,000.
While initially posed as a strong contender against Li Auto’s Li One, the Voyah Free has yet to achieve comparable sales figures, currently making up only a fraction of Li Auto’s sales. This is despite Voyah’s lineup including the Voyah Dreamer MPV and Voyah Zhuiguang sedan, in addition to the Voyah Free.
In July, Voyah reported the sale of 3,412 vehicles, marking the fifth consecutive month of sales surpassing 3,000 units, as reported by China Auto.
