Enhancing Tesla’s Supercharger Usage in China Amid Evolving Charging Landscape
The evolving public charging ecosystem in China appears to be impacting the utilization of Tesla‘s charging infrastructure.
To bolster the usage of its supercharger network among Chinese vehicle owners, Tesla has initiated a campaign. This move could be attributed to the progress in China’s public charging network, which might be leading to a decline in the utilization of Tesla’s charging facilities.
As part of the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of its supercharging network, the American electric vehicle manufacturer is introducing two programs exclusively for Chinese Tesla owners. These programs aim to provide charging-related incentives and were announced through a recent post on Tesla’s WeChat account.
In one of these programs, Chinese Tesla owners have the opportunity to participate in a time-limited “Supercharging Challenge.” By participating and paying for up to 300 kWh of charging between now and November 8, they stand a chance to win a year’s worth of complimentary supercharging, with a maximum cap of 10,000 kilometr.
This initiative also brings forth additional prizes, including mystery gift boxes featuring refrigerator stickers.
The second program encourages owners to utilize any Tesla supercharger station in China between August 11 va avgust 31. By doing so, they become eligible for a shot at winning a year’s worth of free supercharging credits, also limited to 10,000 kilometr.
Bundan tashqari, this program encompasses three other valuable prizes, such as tailor-made Tesla gifts, the coveted 10,000th Tesla supercharger emblem, and a coupon offering an RMB 3 discount on charging above RMB 50.
Tesla’s journey with superchargers commenced in September 2012 when it established the world’s first supercharger. Its charging network expansion in China began after its entry into the Chinese market in 2013.
The timeline continued with the completion of the first Chinese mainland supercharger station in Jinqiao, Shanxay, ichida 2014. tomonidan 2016, the company celebrated its 100th supercharging station inauguration in Beijing.
A significant milestone was achieved on December 26, 2022, when Tesla inaugurated its 10,000th supercharger in mainland China, located beneath Shanghai’s iconic Oriental Pearl Tower.
Hozirda, Tesla boasts a network of over 1,700 supercharging stations and more than 10,000 supercharging connectors across China, as reported last month.
Bunga qo'chimcha, Tesla offers over 700 destination charging stations in China, equipped with more than 2,000 zaryadlovchilar.
An experimental step was taken by Tesla on April 24, when it announced the opening of its supercharger network to other electric vehicle brands in mainland China. This pilot initiative initially extended to 10 supercharging stations in Beijing and Shanghai, accessible to 37 non-Tesla EV models.
Biroq, the progression of this network expansion hasn’t been updated since the initial announcement.
Since the previous week, Tesla has been actively motivating owners to amplify their use of the superchargers.
Avgustda 2, Phate Zhang, the founder of CnEVPost and a Model 3 owner since 2020, received a notification from the Tesla app offering an RMB 10 discount for charging transactions exceeding RMB 60.
Zhang’s charging preference had mostly favored State Grid charging stations situated near his apartment, owing to their proximity and cost-effectiveness, which is approximately half the price of Tesla’s superchargers.
The public charging landscape in China has rapidly expanded, bilan 410,000 units added, jami 2.21 million units from January to July this year, as indicated by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance.
