Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait revealed that a remarkable 42,000 applications have been submitted for the tax-free car import initiative designed for expats. Al-Shahat Ghattouri, head of the Customs Authority, elaborated on the recent facilitations, which include the reevaluation of cars according to graduated categories: basic, medium, and high. These new categories, requested by Egyptians abroad, entail lower customs and tax values based on the level of luxury. The “application” of the initiative now includes tables determining the due cash amount for transfer from abroad in favor of the Ministry of Finance.

In a bid to further streamline the process, an operations room comprising car customs managers from various outlets has been established. This specialized team ensures swift customs clearance, intervening immediately to overcome any potential obstacles. To foster transparent communication, the names of the operations room members have been published on the electronic platform, allowing Egyptians abroad to reach out whenever necessary.
