Tesla Model Y Added to Exclusive Local Government Car Purchase Catalog in China
Tesla’s Model Y crossover has achieved a milestone by being included in the Jiangsu provincial government’s new energy vehicle procurement catalog in China. This marks the first instance of a Tesla model being listed in a Chinese government procurement catalog, reflecting the company’s success in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
The catalog includes several locally-branded new energy vehicles alongside the Model Y, such as the Aito M7, Avatr 11, Deepal SL03, Deepal S7, and IM Motors LS6. It encompasses a variety of vehicle types including sedans, SUVs, MPVs, pickup trucks, and buses.
In order to qualify, SUVs must offer a range exceeding 400 kilometers and cost less than RMB 250,000 yuan. The Model Y featured in the catalog is the entry-level rear-wheel-drive version, starting at RMB 249,900 ($34,370) with a CLTC range of 554 kilometers.
Previously facing restrictions in some Chinese government parks and airports due to security concerns, Tesla is now gaining traction with its locally-produced models meeting China’s stringent data security standards. This development signals a more favorable environment for Tesla in China, further bolstered by advancements such as the anticipated introduction of Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities.
