Tank, Great Wall’s Brand, Introduces New Hybrid SUV to Expand its Footprint in China’s NEV Market
Great Wall Motor’s bespoke brand, Tank, has unveiled its latest hybrid model, the Tank 400 Hi4-T, marking a significant step in its transition towards electrification. This new model was officially launched in China recently and is the second vehicle from Tank to be equipped with Great Wall’s Hi4-T hybrid technology.
Unlike its predecessors, the Tank 300 and Tank 500, which were initially available only with internal combustion engines, the Tank 400 Hi4-T was launched directly with a hybrid powertrain. The Tank 500 Hi4-T, launched on June 26, was the brand’s first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) model.
The new Tank 400 Hi4-T is available in two versions priced between the range of the Tank 300 and Tank 500. It is powered by a 2.0 T engine and an electric motor, providing a combined power of 300 kW and peak torque of 750 Nm. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds.
The vehicle’s Li-ion ternary battery pack has a capacity of 37.1 kWh, offering a WLTC battery range of 110 km and a combined range of 800 km. It supports fast charging, taking just 24 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.
Since pre-sales began on August 25, the company has received over 8,500 pre-sale orders for the Tank 400 Hi4-T. Despite this success, NEVs still make up a small percentage of Great Wall’s total sales. In August, the automaker sold 114,096 vehicles, with NEVs accounting for only 23.05 percent of these sales.
Great Wall has been actively expanding its presence in the NEV market this year with the launch of several products including the Lanshan DHT-PHEV, the Haval Xiaolong, and the Tank 500 Hi4-T.
