SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Baojun brand has unveiled its latest offering, the Baojun Yunduo, a compact electric vehicle (EV), marking the brand’s second launch this year. Positioned to compete with vehicles like BYD Dolphin and Volkswagen’s ID.3, the Baojun Yunduo was unveiled at a recent launch event.

The Baojun Yunduo is available in four versions, each with a distinct price point: RMB 95,800 ($13,270), RMB 103,800, RMB 115,800, and RMB 123,800.

One standout version of the Yunduo will feature the Lingxi smart driving system, a collaborative creation of SAIC-GM-Wuling and drone manufacturer DJI. While reservations for this version began recently, deliveries are scheduled to commence in October. Notably, pricing details for this specific variant are yet to be revealed.

The launch event generated impressive traction, with over 5,000 units of Baojun Yunduo receiving orders on the very day of the unveiling.

Sizing up at 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,652 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, the Baojun Yunduo sets its dimensions for a competitive edge.

By comparison, the BYD Dolphin measures 4,125 / 4,150 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, boasting a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The Dolphin is currently available in three variants, featuring initial prices of RMB 116,800, RMB 123,800, and RMB 136,800 respectively.

Powering the Baojun Yunduo is an electric motor delivering a peak power of 100 kW and a peak torque of 200 Nm.

For energy, the vehicle relies on lithium iron phosphate batteries with pack capacities of 37.9 kWh and 37.9 kWh. These power sources contribute to CLTC ranges of 360 km and 460 km respectively.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, a joint venture involving SAIC, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors, is based in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southwestern China. Its product portfolio predominantly includes vehicles built upon the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) architecture in China. This encompasses models such as the Mini EV, KiWi EV, Nano EV, and Air EV. Additionally, the company offers conventional fuel-powered SUVs, MPVs, and vans.

In the realm of mini EVs, SAIC-GM-Wuling’s lineup features the highly popular Mini EV, as well as the Air EV and Binguo EV, introduced in December and March respectively.

Recently, the Baojun brand launched the Yep, a new mini EV, which starts at RMB 89,800 yuan.
