According to data from the AUTOSTAT agency, Russian residents purchased 10,443 second-hand electric cars in 2023. Experts point out that this number is a 20% increase from 2022 (8,694 vehicles). At the same time, this is a record – the previous high was in 2021 (9,273 units).
In the brand ranking of the used electric vehicle market, Japan’s Nissan (5,971 units) remains the leader, accounting for about 60% of total sales. One fifth of every electric car purchased last year belonged to the US brand Tesla (2,073 units). German Volkswagen (287 units) also entered the top three. In terms of models, Nissan Leaf remains the market leader, with 5,964 units sold as of the end of last year.
The top five sales in the used electric car market also include four Tesla models, namely Model 3 (1,014 units), Model S (419 units), Model Y (349 units) and Model X (291 units). If we look at the December results, in the last month of 2023, the Russian second-hand electric car market sales totaled 635 vehicles. This is a 2.5% decrease from December 2022.
Experts point out another interesting point: there are already more than 60 different brands on the used electric car market in 2023. In 2022 there will be about 50, in 2021 there will be less than 35.
