New Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 500 Unveiled at the 2024 CIIE: Equipped with 3.0T Engine and Priced at RMB 1.868 Million
The 2024 China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off on November 5, marking the debut of the latest Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 500 off-road vehicle. Priced at RMB 1.868 million, this refreshed model showcases updated design details and a new powertrain. The G 500 now boasts a robust 3.0T inline six-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
Exterior Enhancements: Classic Yet Rugged Design
Staying true to the iconic, boxy look of the G-Class, the new G 500 maintains its robust and angular shape, instantly setting it apart from standard SUVs. Updates include a revised front surround that emphasizes its rugged character, and new Mercedes-Benz geometric multi-beam headlights. The grille features familiar horizontal trims, further enhancing the vehicle’s bold aesthetic.
On the sides, the G 500 retains its classic tough look, with a pronounced waistline reinforcing its “tough guy” persona. For the first time, the G 500 is offered in a new Sodalite Blue color, with options for black welcome pedals. Wheel choices range from 18-inch to 20-inch rims, adding a fresh touch to the exterior.
Unmatched Off-Road Capability
The new G 500 retains the formidable off-road capabilities the G-Class is known for, with features such as high ground clearance, extensive suspension travel, ladder frame construction, mechanical differential locks, rigid rear axle, and independent front suspension. It boasts an impressive ground clearance of 241 mm, a wading depth of up to 700 mm, and stability on a 35-degree side slope. With approach and departure angles of 31 and 30 degrees respectively, this vehicle handles challenging terrain with ease.
Enhanced off-road tech includes real-time data displays for off-road conditions on the digital instrument panel and central screen. The 360-degree camera system enables the “real-time off-road road image” function, providing a clear view of the path ahead.
Interior Comfort and Advanced Tech
Inside, the G 500 remains largely unchanged, featuring the latest generation MBUX system with a multimedia touch screen, new steering wheel, and upgraded comfort amenities. New features include keyless entry, temperature-controlled cup holders, wireless charging, front door armrest heating, and the MBUX rear entertainment system. Additionally, advanced safety and driver-assistance systems have been integrated, such as active emergency parking assistance, adaptive speed control, and lane centering.
Enhanced Powertrain and Dynamic Driving Modes
The G 500’s 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine, combined with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, delivers 449 horsepower (330 kW) and 560 Nm of peak torque, with an extra boost of 20 horsepower from the electric motor. This configuration propels the G 500 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. New off-road driving modes—Forest Road, Rock, and Sand—allow the G 500 to adapt its suspension, steering, ESP, and other parameters for optimized performance across various terrains.
With a blend of luxury, power, and unrivaled off-road capability, the new Mercedes-Benz G 500 at the 2024 CIIE is a testament to both engineering excellence and timeless design.
