Deepal, the new energy vehicle (NEV) division of Changan Automobile, has unveiled its latest model, the Deepal S07 SUV, aimed at global markets. The S07, available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) configurations, replaces the S7 to better align with the company’s global strategy.

At an event held yesterday evening, Deepal introduced the S07 as its next-generation global strategic model. The company previously offered models such as the SL03 series of electric sedans, the S7 SUV, and the G318 SUV in China. With the launch of the S07, the S7 is no longer listed on Deepal’s website, reflecting the shift in focus.

The S07 was rebranded as the S07 in Thailand, where it was first sold alongside the SL03 and S7 at the Thailand auto show on November 29, 2023. This rebranding was necessary for various reasons, including registration requirements.

In China, Deepal offers 10 variants of the S07, including six EREV and four BEV models, with prices ranging from RMB 149,900 ($20,730) to RMB 212,900. The mid-size SUV measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm—identical dimensions to the previous S7 model.

The EREV variant of the S07 is powered by a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum power output of 70 kW and comes with two electric motor options, delivering 175 kW and 190 kW, respectively. The EREV models have three battery range options: 125 km, 215 km, and 285 km under the CLTC standard. They have a combined range of up to 1,200 km on a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery.

The BEV variant of the S07 also offers two electric motor options with maximum powers of 160 kW and 190 kW. It provides two range options: 520 km and 628 km under the CLTC standard.

Both the EREV and BEV variants of the S07 feature two models equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS (Advanced Driving System) intelligent driving system, which includes advanced hardware to enable features like highway pilot assisted driving and intelligent parking.

All S07 models support 3C fast charging, enabling a charge from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. The 3C charging multiplier means the battery can be fully charged in one-third of an hour.

Deepal, Changan’s NEV brand, launched the Deepal SL03 sedan on July 25, 2022, positioning it as a competitor to Tesla’s Model 3. The S07 is intended to compete with Tesla’s Model Y.

On June 13, Deepal also launched the G318 SUV, offering only EREV variants at a starting price of RMB 175,900.

According to data compiled by AutoinChina, Deepal delivered 16,659 vehicles in June, marking a year-on-year increase of 107.18% and a 15.92% increase from May. In the first half of the year, Deepal delivered 83,858 vehicles, up 101.46% compared to the same period last year.
