BYD’s Denza Brand Unveils New SUV N8 Starting at Approximately $44,600
BYD‘s esteemed premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, Denza, has recently unveiled its latest offering, the Denza N8 SUV, just a month after the successful launch of its predecessor, the Denza N7.
The Denza N8, a mid-to-large-size SUV, is now officially available in China, presenting customers with two versions, both powered by BYD’s DM-p hybrid system.
BYD’s versatile vehicle lineup includes options for both pure electric and plug-in hybrid models, encompassing a DM-i version focused on fuel economy and a DM-p version prioritizing performance.
Prospective buyers can choose between the seven-seat and six-seat versions of the Denza N8, with starting prices of RMB 319,800 ($44,600) and RMB 326,800, respectively.
The pricing structure slightly overlaps with the Denza N7 SUV, which debuted on July 3, and offers six variants with starting prices ranging from RMB 301,800 to RMB 379,800.
Measuring 4,949 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, 1,725 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,830 mm, the Denza N8 is marginally larger than BYD’s flagship SUV, the Tang family, which measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, 1,725 mm in height, and features a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
Under the hood, the Denza N8 features dual electric motors, with the front motor delivering a maximum power of 160 kW and the rear motor providing a maximum power of 200 kW. This impressive powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
Equipped with a standard BYD blade battery pack boasting a 45.8 kWh capacity, the N8 model offers an NEDC range of 216 km on battery power alone. With a full tank of fuel and a full charge, the model’s overall range can extend up to an impressive 1,030 kilometers.
Originally planning to launch a variant of the Denza D9 MPV on August 5, Denza’s chief, Zhao Changjiang, announced on Weibo on July 28 that the brand decided to make the Denza N8 available alongside the newer D9 model.
On the same day, Denza introduced the DM-i hybrid variant of the D9 MPV, featuring a combined range of 965 kilometers and starting at a price of RMB 349,800.
Denza, initially a 50/50 joint venture between BYD and Daimler established in February 2011, underwent a rebranding in February 2022, becoming Mercedes-Benz.
Over the last year, BYD’s stake in Denza increased to 90 percent, while Mercedes-Benz’s stake decreased to 10 percent.
The first model under the new Denza brand, the D9 MPV, entered the market in August 2022 and began deliveries last October.
Following the success of the D9, Denza introduced its second model, the N7, on July 3, with deliveries commencing on July 31.
In July, Denza experienced robust sales, selling 11,146 vehicles, maintaining similar figures from June, as reported by BYD earlier this month.
