BYD Unveils Qin L and Seal 06 Hybrid Sedans with 5th-Gen DM Technology
BYD has officially launched the Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i, two new hybrid sedans featuring the company’s fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) technology. These models, available in five variants each, were initially unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show and are now available in a price range of RMB 99,800 ($13,770) to RMB 139,800.
Both models are mid-sized sedans, with the Qin L DM-i belonging to BYD’s Dynasty series and the Seal 06 DM-i to the Ocean series. They were introduced at an event in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, marking the debut of BYD’s latest DM hybrid technology, which promises lower fuel consumption.
The Qin L DM-i measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. It offers two battery range options: 80 kilometers and 120 kilometers, with battery capacities of 10.08 kWh and 15.87 kWh, respectively. Prices for these variants range from RMB 99,800 to RMB 139,800.
Equipped with the fifth-generation DM technology, the Qin L DM-i boasts an engine thermal efficiency of 46.06 percent and a fuel consumption rate as low as 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers at low charge. The car has a combined range of up to 2,100 kilometers when fully fueled and charged. It comes with a 1.5 L engine, with the lower-priced variants featuring a 120 kW motor and the higher-priced ones a 160 kW motor. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 7.9 seconds for the former and 7.5 seconds for the latter.
The Seal 06 DM-i shares similar dimensions with the Qin L DM-i, measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with the same wheelbase of 2,790 mm. It also comes in five variants priced identically to the Qin L DM-i. Both models share the same powertrain, performance specifications, and battery capacities for corresponding trims.
These new models with fifth-generation DM technology represent BYD’s strategic push against traditional fuel vehicles, following the launch of the Glory edition updates earlier this year. The lower fuel consumption and youthful design of the Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i are expected to appeal to more cost-conscious consumers.
BYD anticipates a sales growth of over 20 percent in 2024 compared to 2023, targeting more than 3.63 million vehicles sold this year. This projection follows their achievement of selling 3,024,417 NEVs in 2023, as stated by the company’s chairman and president, Wang Chuanfu, at an investor conference in late March.
