BYD Unveils Next-Gen PHEV and BEV Platforms for a Stronger Assault on Gasoline Vehicles, According to Reports - News - 1

In a recent move to bolster its electric vehicle (EV) offerings, BYD is set to unveil its next-generation DM hybrid system and upgrade its all-electric e-Platform, according to reports from local media sources. The upcoming DM hybrid system is expected to provide vehicles with an impressive combined range of nearly 2,000 kilometers, showcasing the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV capabilities.

BYD initiated a new wave of model updates last month, signaling a strong second offensive against traditional fuel vehicles. The company’s core management team has reportedly expressed their intention to leverage technological advancements and strengthen the entire industry chain to initiate a “liberation battle” over the next three years.

As part of this strategy, BYD will enhance its DM (Dual Mode) hybrid system and update its e-Platform. The DM hybrid technology, introduced in 2008 and currently in its fourth generation, will see the launch of the fifth-generation DM system. The DM-i branch, designed for energy efficiency, is expected to achieve fuel consumption as low as 2.9 L per 100 kilometers, providing an extraordinary range of close to 2,000 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and charge.

Comparatively, traditional gasoline cars typically offer a range of around 600 kilometers when fully fueled. The report suggests that even local competitors, such as SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Xingguang and Geely Galaxy L6, may find it challenging to compete with BYD’s advanced DM technology.

Furthermore, BYD’s BEV platform, e-Platform, is poised for an upgrade from version 3.0 to 4.0. The new version aims to improve component integration, reduce wiring harnesses, and create opportunities for additional cost reductions. BYD’s focus on cost efficiency aligns with its broader goal of capturing more market share from gasoline cars and driving increased penetration of new energy vehicles (NEVs) over the next three years.

The recent launch of models like the Qin Plus Glory Edition and Chaser 05 Glory Edition on February 19 reflects BYD’s strategy to further penetrate the market by offering competitively priced EVs compared to traditional fuel vehicles. The company anticipates a significant impact on the NEV market during this “liberation battle,” with potential effects on its counterparts in the industry.
