BYD Song Plus Series Surpasses One Million Sales Milestone in 2024
BYD Song Plus Series Surpasses One Million Units Sold: A Milestone for China’s New Energy SUV Market
On July 20, BYD proudly announced that its popular BYD Song Plus series of new energy vehicles has reached a remarkable milestone, with cumulative sales exceeding one million units. This achievement marks the first time a new energy SUV in China has achieved such a sales landmark, solidifying BYD‘s position as a leading player in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) segment.
The BYD Song Plus series comprises two main variants: the DM-i plug-in hybrid and the pure electric model, both of which fall under the prestigious BYD Dynasty product line. Earlier this year, on January 3, BYD’s Xi’an factory celebrated the production of the 800,000th BYD Song Plus Champion Edition. At the time, BYD confirmed that the Song Plus series had secured the top spot in the plug-in hybrid SUV sales category for two and a half consecutive years, with 2023 sales reaching 390,213 units, despite a 14.81% year-on-year decrease, placing it second overall in the SUV sales rankings.
BYD has continued to expand the Song Plus series lineup, introducing new trims to cater to a wider customer base. In February, the Song Plus DM-i/EV Honor Edition was launched, starting at an affordable price point of 129,800 yuan (approximately $17,800 USD). Looking ahead, BYD is set to unveil the 2025 Song Plus DM-i on July 25, featuring the latest fifth-generation DM technology.
The 2025 Song Plus DM-i is equipped with the same Blade batteries as the existing model, with capacities of 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh. Notably, the WLTC-rated pure electric range has been extended to 91 km and 128 km, while fuel consumption has been optimized to 4.95L/100km and 4.98L/100km, respectively. The vehicle is expected to carry a starting price of 150,000 yuan (around $20,600 USD) and maintain the same dimensions of 4775 x 1890 x 1670 mm, with a wheelbase of 2765 mm.
June saw impressive sales figures for the Song Plus series, with 32,103 units of the DM-i variant sold, marking a 35.3% year-on-year increase and a marginal 0.1% month-on-month growth. This brings the cumulative sales for the first half of 2024 to 166,221 units. Additionally, the Song Plus EV model saw 13,458 units sold, contributing to a total of 58,435 units sold in the same period.
BYD’s global footprint continues to expand, with its new energy vehicles now sold in 88 countries and regions, spanning over 400 cities worldwide. Beyond Thailand, BYD has established production bases in Brazil, Hungary, and Uzbekistan. Recently, at the Guayaquil Auto Show in Ecuador, BYD successfully hosted a launch conference for the Song Plus DM-i, further demonstrating its commitment to international markets.
