On July 25, BYD, the leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, will unveil two new additions to its best-selling Song family – the 2025 Song Plus DM-i and the Song L DM-i.
These SUV models will be the first to incorporate BYD’s cutting-edge DM 5.0 hybrid system, according to a recent announcement on the company’s official Weibo account.
The unveiling ceremony for these eagerly anticipated models is scheduled to commence at 7:30 PM Beijing Time on the specified date. BYD’s vehicle portfolio encompasses the Dynasty and Ocean series, with the Song family spanning across both collections.
Currently, the Dynasty lineup features the all-electric Song L and the hybrid Song Pro DM-i, while the Ocean series includes the Song Plus DM-i and Song Plus EV. With the introduction of the DM 5.0 hybrid system, the Song L DM-i and the refreshed Song Plus DM-i will bolster BYD’s offerings in the SUV segment.
BYD debuted its fifth-generation DM technology on May 28, promising improved fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor. At the time, the company also launched the Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i hybrid sedans, the first models to integrate the fifth-generation DM technology. Both vehicles boast an impressive combined driving range exceeding 2,000 kilometers.
The Song L DM-i and the 2025 Song Plus DM-i will mark the debut of the DM 5.0 technology in BYD’s SUV lineup, with the former belonging to the Dynasty series and the latter to the Ocean series. Previews of the Song L DM-i were released two weeks ago, with the all-electric Song L having hit the market on December 15, 2023. The exterior of the 2025 Song Plus DM-i was revealed yesterday, followed by the unveiling of its interior today.
BYD reported a record-breaking sales figure of 341,658 NEVs in June, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 35.02% and a month-on-month rise of 2.97%, as announced on July 1. According to data compiled by AutoinChina, the Song family led the sales charts with 70,219 units sold in June, demonstrating a year-on-year surge of 65.66% but a slight dip of 14.55% from May’s sales numbers.
These milestones underscore BYD’s continued dominance in the NEV market and highlight the company’s commitment to innovation and expanding its product range with advanced technologies.
