The eagerly awaited plug-in hybrid version of the Seal sedan, which saw its debut production just a month ago, will be open for pre-sales starting this Friday.

Scheduled for August 25th at 2:30 pm Beijing time, BYD’s pre-sale event for the Seal DM-i is a significant highlight of this year’s Chengdu auto show. BYD shared this exciting news through a recent Weibo post.

The Seal DM-i is poised to redefine the landscape of the mid-size sedan market, offering a blend of innovation and performance that BYD is renowned for.

Marking the media day of the Chengdu auto show, which runs from August 25th to September 3rd, BYD’s booth can be found in Hall 3, designated as H301, within the Western China International Expo City.

Originally introduced as the Chaser 07 during the Shanghai auto show’s debut on April 18th, the Seal DM-i boasts an anticipated price range of 200,000 yuan ($27,440) to 250,000 yuan. This model is anticipated to be officially launched in the third quarter.

The Seal DM-i is an evolution of the previously launched Seal BEV, which entered the Chinese market on July 29, 2022. Positioned as a formidable rival to Tesla’s Model 3, the Seal DM-i diversifies BYD’s offerings by venturing into the hybrid domain.

With dimensions encompassing a length of 4,980 millimeters, width of 1,890 millimeters, and height of 1,495 millimeters, the Seal DM-i falls into the B+ sedan category. Its wheelbase spans 2,900 millimeters, as per BYD’s earlier specifications.

Comparatively, the pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant, the BYD Seal, exhibits dimensions of 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

The Seal DM-i dazzles with two range options, each boasting NEDC pure electric ranges of 121 km and 200 km respectively.

Production of the Seal DM-i commenced on July 19th at BYD’s manufacturing hub in Zhengzhou, Henan province, with an envisaged monthly capacity of up to 30,000 units. The manufacturing base in Zhengzhou has the potential to produce hundreds of thousands of new energy vehicles (NEVs) annually.
