BYD Second-Generation Song Pro DM-i Unveiled with Interior Redesign: Launching on September 23
BYD is set to launch the highly anticipated second-generation Song Pro DM-i, and ahead of its release, official images showcasing the vehicle’s redesigned interior have been revealed. This new model introduces significant updates in both design and technology, signaling a major step forward for BYD’s popular DM-i lineup.
Interior Overhaul with a Modern Touch
The second-generation Song Pro DM-i boasts a completely revamped interior, setting it apart from its predecessor. The new center console adopts BYD’s latest Dynasty Network family design, featuring a sleek black trim that spans across the dashboard. An embedded full LCD instrument panel takes center stage, along with updated air-conditioning outlets and a reconfigured sub-instrument area.
A standout feature is the newly designed four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, reminiscent of the one found in the Song L DM-i, adding a sporty flair to the interior. For a touch of elegance, light brown leather covers the seats, door panels, and central armrests, while the door panels incorporate triangular elements and ambient lighting, enhancing the vehicle’s premium feel.
Enhanced Comfort and Functionality
The interior updates continue with new split-style front seats and an improved stitching pattern for the rear seats, ensuring both style and comfort. The rear air outlets have also been redesigned, with the removal of the “BYD DESIGN” logo on the upper part for a cleaner look. The charging ports have been updated to include one USB Type-A and one USB Type-C at the bottom, catering to modern connectivity needs.
Exterior Design: The Evolution of Dragon Face Aesthetics
BYD’s second-generation Song Pro DM-i embraces the brand’s next-generation Dragon Face Aesthetics, offering a bold and fresh look. The front grille’s trim mirrors the style of the Song L, while the black-accented headlight assembly and redesigned front bumper give the vehicle a more aggressive and contemporary appearance.
The side profile remains mostly unchanged, though the D-pillar now features a black trim, and the door handles maintain a streamlined design. At the rear, BYD has replaced the “BUILD YOUR DREAMS” logo with a simple “BYD” emblem, giving the back of the vehicle a cleaner, more modern aesthetic.
Dimensions and Specifications
In terms of size, the second-generation Song Pro DM-i measures 4735 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1700 mm (or 1710 mm depending on configuration) in height, with a wheelbase of 2712 mm. The overall length has been reduced by 3 mm compared to the current model, but all other dimensions remain unchanged.
Powertrain and Performance: Fifth-Generation DM Hybrid Technology
Under the hood, the second-generation Song Pro DM-i will be powered by BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, combining a 1.5-liter engine with an electric drive motor. The 1.5-liter engine delivers a maximum power of 74 kW, the same as the Song L DM-i and Qin L DM-i. However, compared to the 2024 Song Pro DM-i currently available, the engine’s power output is slightly lower.
The vehicle will be offered with two lithium iron phosphate battery options: a 12.96 kWh pack and an 18.316 kWh pack. These will provide a pure electric range of 64 kilometers and 93 kilometers, respectively, under WLTC conditions. Additionally, the fuel consumption in hybrid mode is expected to be 4.85 liters and 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers, making it more efficient than its predecessor.
A Promising Update to the BYD Lineup
The second-generation BYD Song Pro DM-i represents a significant evolution in both design and technology. With a fresh interior, updated exterior, and the latest hybrid powertrain advancements, it is poised to continue BYD’s success in the plug-in hybrid SUV market.
