BYD Seal DM-i Set to Hit the Market Next Week with a Starting Price of $24,400 USD
BYD is set to launch its Seal DM-i mid-size plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan on September 6th, offering a range of pricing options from 176,800 to 246,800 yuan (approximately 24,400 to 34,000 USD). This announcement comes from the Shenzhen-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer.
Initially unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show under the name Chaser 07 (Destroyer 07), BYD has chosen to expand the Seal brand, introducing models like the Seal EV, Seal DM-i, and Seal U (Atto3/Yuan Plus).
Pre-sales of the Seal DM-i began at the Chengdu Auto Show, and the PHEV sedan is available in six different trim levels. These trims come with either a 1.5T or 1.5L engine, offering electric ranges of 121 km or 200 km, depending on the version. The first five trims provide a 121 km electric range, while the last one offers the longest range. The vehicle achieves a fuel consumption rating of 3.9 L/100 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The Seal DM-i is built on a chassis measuring 4980/1890/1495 mm, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. It is 180 mm longer, 15 mm wider, and 35 mm taller than the Seal EV, featuring a more traditional sedan body shape. Nevertheless, the PHEV retains BYD’s signature “Ocean Aesthetics” design, which incorporates elements inspired by wind and waves from the Ocean-X concept car.
The interior of the Seal DM-i also embraces the “Ocean Aesthetics” theme, with features such as a full LCD dashboard, a large adaptive center control screen, and a head-up display (HUD). The steering wheel receives a new design, wrapped in leather material with chrome accents. The vehicle is equipped with wood grain trim, a large sunroof with a sunshade, and generously cushioned rear seats, creating a luxurious and textured ambiance. It also comes with Dynaudio speakers and an impressive 12 airbags, the most in its class, enhancing safety and comfort for passengers.
