In China, all vehicles must receive approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) before they can be sold. This regulatory process often leads to the early release of key details about the vehicle, sometimes ahead of the official launch. Thanks to MIIT, we now know that the Seal 05 has a length of 4780 mm, making it 50 mm shorter than the Seal 06 PHEV and 20 mm shorter than the original Seal EV. It has a width of 1837 mm, a height of 1515 mm, and a wheelbase of 2718 mm.

There are three different versions of the Seal 05, as per MIIT listings. The base model weighs 1480 kg, while the two other variants weigh 1580 kg. All versions offer a choice of 16 or 17-inch wheels.

Under the hood, the Seal 05 DM-i is powered by BYD’s latest DM 5.0 fifth-generation PHEV technology. Despite being one of the smaller cars to feature this technology, the Seal 05 uses a 74 kW naturally aspirated 1.5-liter BYD472QC engine. All versions of the car are equipped with the TZ210XYB 120 kW electric motor, which is produced by BYD’s Changsha division.

As expected from a BYD vehicle, the Seal 05 DM-i is equipped with the company’s lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery. Although exact details on battery capacity are yet to be confirmed, the weight differences between the variants suggest that different battery options will be available.

BYD is known for its quick vehicle launches, so we can expect the Seal 05 DM-i to debut in early 2025, further expanding BYD’s presence in the growing PHEV market.
