BYD Launches 2025 Seagull with Unchanged Pricing and Specs
Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker BYD has updated its most affordable model, the BYD Seagull, without changing the pricing or core specifications. The 2025 Seagull, launched just five months after the previous Glory Edition update on March 6, 2024, retains the starting prices of RMB 69,800 ($9,650), RMB 75,800, and RMB 85,800, matching the three variants of the Seagull Glory Edition.
Contrary to recent speculation suggesting a potential price increase of RMB 1,200 to RMB 2,200, BYD’s announcement confirms that the pricing remains unchanged.
Key specifications of the compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) remain consistent, with dimensions of 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. The Seagull continues to be powered by lithium iron phosphate-based blade batteries, with the lower-priced variants equipped with 30.08 kWh packs and the top variant featuring a 38.88 kWh pack.
These configurations provide ranges of 305 kilometers and 405 kilometers under the CLTC standard. The electric motor delivers a maximum power output of 55 kW and peak torque of 135 Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 50 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds. The 0 to 100 kilometers per hour acceleration time is not specified.
The Seagull is one of BYD’s best-selling models, with 280,217 units sold in 2023, accounting for 9% of BYD’s annual sales of 3,024,417 vehicles, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. In June 2024, BYD sold 341,658 NEVs, up 35.02% year-over-year and 2.97% from May. The Seagull sold 36,066 units in June, representing a 56.77% increase year-over-year and a 1.97% rise from May.
BYD is expected to release its July sales figures later today.
