BYD Unveils Updated Yuan Plus with a 12% Reduction in Starting Price
BYD continues its model updates with the launch of the Yuan Plus Glory Edition, now sporting a starting price of RMB 119,800 ($16,650), marking a noteworthy reduction of RMB 16,000 or 11.78% from the previous Champion Edition’s starting price of RMB 135,800. Originally introduced to the Chinese market in February 2022, the Yuan Plus is the first SUV built on BYD’s all-electric platform, e-platform 3.0, and is designed for the global market under the Atto 3 name in overseas markets.
The Yuan Plus Glory Edition, available in five variants with prices ranging from RMB 119,800 to RMB 147,800, introduces black exterior and interior options along with enhanced support for continuous voice calling for the cockpit. Despite the price reduction, core specifications remain unchanged, featuring dimensions of 4,455 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,615 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
Retaining the battery packs from the previous Champion Edition, the two lower-priced models boast a 49.92 kWh pack, offering a combined range of 430 kilometers, while the three higher-priced versions feature a 60.48 kWh pack, providing a range of 510 kilometers. The model maintains a single motor with a peak power of 150 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
The Yuan Plus Glory Edition is the latest addition to BYD’s recent string of model updates, which includes the Dolphin, Han, Tang, Song Plus, Seal EV, and Song Pro DM-i, all featuring price reductions.
For the entirety of 2023, BYD achieved remarkable sales in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, reaching 3,024,417 units and surpassing its 3 million unit target with a 62.3% year-on-year increase. In 2024, BYD aims for a sales target of 4 million units, projecting 2 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 2.2 million plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). While sales in January and February experienced a dip due to factors like the Chinese New Year holiday, BYD remains optimistic about its ambitious targets.
