Anhui Volkswagen Initiates Debut Model ID.UNYX Filing
Volkswagen Anhui, a prominent Chinese joint venture primarily owned by Volkswagen, marks a significant milestone with the filing of its inaugural model, the ID.UNYX, underscoring its imminent launch in the Chinese market.
The latest catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) features the ID.UNYX from Volkswagen Anhui, inviting public feedback from March 13 to March 19. Inclusion in this catalog represents the final regulatory step before a model can be sold in China.
The ID.UNYX, listed in two variants – the VWA64702BEV1 and VWA64703BEV1 – boasts distinctive specifications. The single-motor version harnesses a 170 kW electric motor, while the dual-motor variant combines electric motors with maximum powers of 80 kW and 170 kW, respectively.
According to its filing, the five-seater ID.UNYX measures 4,663 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,610 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm. Both versions feature lithium ternary battery packs sourced from CATL.
Established in 2017, Volkswagen Anhui represents Volkswagen’s inaugural joint venture in China with a focus on new energy vehicles (NEVs). Formerly known as Jianghuai Volkswagen Automobile Co Ltd, the company underwent rebranding in 2020, with Volkswagen acquiring a 75 percent stake.
Volkswagen Anhui operates Volkswagen’s third MEB (modular electric drive matrix) plant in China, dedicated to producing pure electric vehicles based on the platform. Notably, the Cupra Tavascan, an all-electric model designed for export to the European market, commenced production under Volkswagen Anhui’s auspices, with plans for another Volkswagen-branded model tailored for the Chinese market slated for 2024.
Cupra, a subsidiary of Volkswagen’s SEAT brand, introduced the Tavascan concept in 2019, underpinned by the MEB platform, showcasing Volkswagen Anhui’s commitment to cutting-edge electric vehicle technology.
